Art. Film. Photography. Performance. Literature. Music. History. Heritage.

All this and more.

Let’s create cultural impact together.

What is a Cultural Consultant and Why Should I Engage One?

A cultural consultant has traditionally held multiple definitions, one of the most common being an expert who advises individuals, organizations, or creative teams on how to accurately and respectfully represent cultures other than their own. Alternatively, it can also refer to an SME (subject matter expert) in the cultural heritage industries.

While these are both major aspects of what I do, what makes my work special is the way I seek to expand the scope and possibilities of what this title entails through strategic portfolio management (PfM) integration. I not only further the impact of individual projects, but seek to support the broader public in all aspects of culture-making and engagement.

In other words, I put strategy and theory into informed and impactful practice.

Understanding The Key Players in Culture.

Mass Media and Communications

Journalism, Broadcasting, Public Relations, Publicity, Advertising, and Marketing.

Publishing

Print and Digital Books, Magazines, and Periodicals. Includes authors and their readers, as well as manuscript editors and literary agents.

Cultural Institutions

Also called GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums), cultural institutions are at the forefront of public access to history, material culture, and art.

Academia

Colleges and Universities who produce groundbreaking, culture-shaping research in the humanities and social sciences, as well as serve as spaces for public discourse.

Nonprofits and NGOs

Organizations with philanthropic interests that fund individuals and special interest groups with interests in contributing to cultural life through projects, inatives and activism.

Government Agencies

Special offices of national administration that fund their own initiatives directly from taxpayers, typically through community nonprofits and NGOs. These agencies also hold policy-making power in shaping cultural life and responding to it.

Film, Music, and Television

The visual and acoustic drivers for culture, both responding to the cultural landscape and shaping it through creating visual and audio media. Includes individuals who write, direct, and produce media.

Fine and Performing Arts

The talent aspect of culture. Individuals who produce or perform traditional art forms through visual mediums, instruments, dance, or acting—either live or recorded.

The nexus of these eight sectors across the world come together to create the cultural industry: The ideological, artistic and aesthetic landscape that transforms communities, countries, and global conversation…

and then comes the individual.

The artist, the performer, the entrepreneur, the author, the director, the thought leader, the activist…

You.

shaping global culture just as much as it shapes you.

Culture thrives when visionary ideas, creative resources, and inspirational voices are meaningfully connected.

But structural inequalities, elitism, and industry siloes have made platforming and growth difficult or confusing for many brilliant individuals who want to thoughtfully engage and contribute.

I’m here to change that .

Why Me?

I bring a diverse set of credentialed expertise and professional experience across several areas of the cultural industry, a novelty in what are otherwise traditionally siloed sectors. I hold a foundational dual-B.A in History and Classical Civilizations, as well as a B.S in Television, Radio and Film from Syracuse University. My masters in History and Literature from Columbia University has further informed my experience and expertise in academia, cultural institutions, and publishing. My education, paired with my PMI-PMP certification, provides a unique perspective and makes me a social impact powerhouse for individuals and organizations looking to build a cultural ecosystem.

You get the best of several worlds: an individual with profound subject matter expertise and research acumen, creative production knowledge, as well as practical business operations and strategic development approaches. Punctuating it all is international experience, cultural sensitivity and EI, a deep commitment to professional ethics, and a passion for remaining at the forefront of innovation and best practice.

When you work with me, you work with someone who is always learning, doing, and developing — passionate about helping you and your organization reach its fullest potential in the cultural space.

How I Elevate Your Creative and Cultural Work.

I focus on doing the heavy lifting of research, management and info-gathering for the particulars of your project so you can direct your energy towards the conceptual flow of your creative work.

More than providing a service, I strive to be your trusted business partner and professional ally in the cultural industry.

  • With a strong foundation at the nexus of media production and social sciences, I am excellently equipped to perform the traditional cultural consulting tasks to assist media professionals in presenting their work with sensitivity, impact and resonance.

  • Launching a business. Transforming your passion into something more. Sharing a creative project with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story can make all the difference—whether that’s growing an audience or launching a crowdfunding campaign. My goal is to help you achieve measurable impact, however you define success for your project.

  • My colleagues and I are at the forefront of collapsing industry siloes and illustrating value, connections, market opportunity and overlapping themes in strategic growth initiatives. Where others see black-and-white, I dive headfirst into the gray: distinguishing you from the competition at the very start.

  • Information access is one of the most crucial aspects of a successful cultural project. I advise and assist you in accessing and interpreting the latest academic and industry research, performing quality control on relevant sources through fact-checking, and finding ways to present it accurately to your audience.

  • One of the greatest barriers to cultural production and participation are financial constraints and socioeconomic inequality. I assist my clients in sourcing and applying to opportunities for grants, paid fellowships, and professional development programs that can reach across financial barriers and help make your project a reality.

  • Free, low-cost, and pro-bono creative legal services are out there, and I want to do everything I can to help you know and protect your rights. I’ll help connect you with legal services and advocacy that best suit your project needs.

  • Cultural work is radical community action. I want to help you shake hands and make professional partnerships that are fruitful, impactful, and lasting—so you’re set up for success not just for your initial project, but supported for many to come.

  • Sometimes what you need exists outside the constraints of a one-off consulting agreement or deliverable development. When you need advice and senior-level dedicated support during a crucial strategic growth or transformation phase, I offer contracted fractional leadership engagements to assist you in a more hands-on, longer-term, in-depth capacity.

  • Want to educate your organization on the cultural industry? We can collaborate to develop a professional development seminar to help equip your team with the necessary introductory background knowledge tailored to your needs, operations, and strategic goals.
